I haven’t written as a while because I have been very busy with other writing projects. I’ve also found that this blog on Diyarbakir Travel has attracted a great deal of spam. Anyways, I have decided to write today on where to shop in Diyarbakir, especially if you are undertaking to travel to Diyarbakir. Shopping in Diyarbakir, will no doubt, be a part of your plans, whether it’s for small souvenirs or something as large as a carpet to ship back home. In this article, I’ll write about Hasan Pasa Hani, constructed in the late 1500s.
The Hasan Pasa Hani is near the Ulu Cami Mosque. Circling a courtyard, the walls are constructed of the black and white strips of basalt typical of the historical buildings in Diyarbakir. It is a typical caravanseri of times past, featuring arches and over the main entrance arch, you will see calligraphy.
In its earlier days, it was an inn for travelers to rest their horses and refresh themselves with meals and drinks. Today, you will find little shops which sell souvenirs, ceramics, jewelery, silver ware, scarfs, textiles, antiques and carpets. You will also find little cafes where you can sit, drink tea or coffee, meet friends and dine on some tasty food Diyarbakir style. Take a rest in one of these little cafes when you have finished shopping at the Hasan Pasa Hani in Diyarbakir.
